“Landscape Architecture and creating gardens certainly changed my life. To find a career where I could imagine places and then create them, where I could work architecturally, and combine that with living trees and plants, has been, and still is a joy. I like to work with people and how I get to know them throughout the process. I like making things, and working with materials. I enjoy being in a space and getting a felt sense of that place. Working intuitively, and the positivity of creating something with consideration is very rewarding for me.
I am interested in meditation & psychology and the energy of people and places. In my career I have been interested in how places resonate with us, how design ‘works’ for people, and how we relate to the landscape?
When I am not working, I get a lot from spending time in the landscape whether it’s walking or surfing etc. My wife and daughter are the centre of my life and what brings me the most joy and happiness.”
Berat Varol MSc Eng
Berat Varol is a landscape architecture who joined the studio in 2022. He enjoys design and is also very technically adept. He contributes many technical skills to the studio, autocad, drawing creation, construction and planting skills, and 3d modelling and rendering. He is originally from Istanbul. When not at work, he enjoys gaming and programming, socialising with friends and spending time with his partner.
Sylvester Truchan MSc Eng
Sylvester Truchan has worked as a landscape architect in a number of professional practices in London & Oxford. He is passionate about design philosophy. He has known Doug for 15 years as friends and collaborators, they share a love of design. Sylvester is also skilled in conceptual design and 3d modelling . He has lived all over the world in Korea and Bali and is originally from the mountainous region of Zakopane in Poland. He has a love of the wild outdoors, mountains and snowy landscapes.

‘Doug completed a design and the new garden was finished in early 2021. We wanted drought resistant planting and Doug created a colourful and vivid scheme that flowered from spring to autumn. It’s a lovely mixture of yellows, ochre’s and blues with occasional dots of bright colour. The grasses catching the light and the breeze are particularly beautiful…. He has stayed in contact to consult with us about the maintenance. An excellent service.
