The project centred around a barn conversion which was situated within metres of a large lake, mature broadleaved woodland and an area the client wished to designate as wild flower meadow. ‘Having used the barn as an office for years, stories told by the client clearly revealed a passion and love of wild flora and fauna. It was obvious the design needed to strongly reference and respect the connection to the natural environment. I added a concept of ‘Spiralling’ to the brief, which the client liked. This concept came from remembering experiences of being in the space. I introduced curves that were loose and supposed to reference curves in nature.’ Doug Holloway
