Family Space with a Pool

The major issue with this space was a pool which was already built very near to the house. The client decided to keep and renovate the pool. The design needed to move the hierarchy of the felt sense of place into new areas for relaxing and dining, while taking the focus away from the swimming pool. The original walls of the pool, being diagonal, seemed to ‘draw you up’, this had led to a sense of all other areas being secondary to the pool, that design now seemed dated. We proposed to rebuild the walls parallel with the pool, to create more presence in the pool area, and broke the seating spaces into different areas. We surrounded all areas with planting to create life and vibrance in the relatively hard landscape, each space had its own identity with unique planting.
